Day 15 of 30

What Is Sin and Why Does It Matter?

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:23 (ESV)

Foundational teaching

Sin is any action, thought, or attitude that runs against God's character and commands. It separates us from God, damages our relationships with others, and disturbs our own peace. Being honest about sin is what makes our need for salvation clear and the worth of Jesus' sacrifice clear too.

What this means for you

Naming sin is not about shame; it is about honesty. Everyone falls short, so no one has to pretend. And because Christ has dealt with sin at the cross, you can look at your own failure without despair and bring it into the light.

Reflection questions

  1. How does understanding sin change your view of God's grace?
  2. Where are you tempted to make something seem smaller or less serious than God says it is, or to excuse something God calls sin?
  3. What would it look like to be honest with God about it today?

My first step

Ask God to show you one specific area to bring into the light, then write it down and tell Him about it plainly.

Guided prayer

Father, I admit I fall short of Your glory. Thank You that You already know and still love me. Show me the truth about myself, and thank You that Jesus has taken what I could never carry. Amen.
