Living Out Your Faith
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
Foundational teaching
The Bible's guidance for how Christians should live comes from the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. It shows us how to live in a way that pleases God. This is not only about avoiding wrongdoing. It is about actively doing good and showing the character of Christ in ordinary moments. One of the qualities Paul lists is meekness, which means gentle strength.
What this means for you
Paul says to 'put on' these qualities the way you put on clothing — on purpose, every day. Compassion and patience are choices you make before you feel them. And notice what it all rests on: forgive as the Lord forgave you.
